I started this 30-Day challenge after watching this video by Shane Melaugh.
In it he challenges his audience to create and publish content for 30 days straight without worrying about whether it's good or not so they can eliminate the emotional charge that comes with the ups and downs of business.
He gives a great analogy of a boxer.
Beginning fighters feel an emotional charge every time they get hit in the face.
Experienced fighters, on the other hand, have been hit so many times, they expect it. It becomes part of the job and they no longer feel an emotional charge.
And business works the same way.
In the beginning, business owners feel every little setback or "failure." There's an emotional charge.
But after a while they see that setbacks are just part of growing a business. Some things work, some things don't.
I started the challenge because I was still having an emotional charge around things like open rates and unsubscribes.
It's day 14 and I can definitely feel that it's working. If I see a lower open rate than what I was expecting, I'm pretty neutral about it. I just wonder if there was a better subject line for that particular email.
But I realized this week that I still get an emotional charge when I get spam complaints.
It's still a punch in the face for me.
If you read yesterdays blog post, you know how I feel about spam.
Every person on my email list got there because they opted in.
And on my opt-in page, I very clearly state that they will be getting my best tips and strategies delivered to their email. And they can unsubscribe at any time.
And on every single one of these 30-day emails, I have the opportunity for people to opt out of the dailies and only get the weekly emails.
And every one of these emails has been value-based. No offers in site except in my footer where I invite people to take the next steps with me if they're interested.
There is nothing spammy about the way I run my business.
So when I get a spam complaint. It irks. Still.
As you can probably tell. 😉
But, there are 16 more days of this challenge.
Maybe by the end I can let spam complaints roll of my back.
We'll see.
I'll keep you posted.
With love & joy,
P.S. Is there someone in your life who could benefit from reading this post? Why not share this with them?
