I know that even the idea of creating a website can stop many coaches in their tracks.
I get it.
There are a lot of things to consider when creating a website.
Design
What to include where
Copy
And that doesn't even include any opt-in pages for a freebie giveaway.
It can feel overwhelming for sure.
In order to get started and deal with this overwhelm, I see a lot of coaches make this huge mistake...
They take someone else's website and emulate it.
They usually do one of two things...
- 1They emulate another coach's website.
- 2They take someone who is already very successful and emulate that website.
Here's where the issues come in...
If you take another coach's website and emulate it, you have no guarantee that the site actually works for that coach.
So, you have no idea if it will work for you.
Then you have a site that looks like every other coach site out there.
And if you emulate a website by someone who is already successful, this can cause a lot of problems as well.
Often, these sites are "celebrity" sites.
Meaning the site is about that celebrity brand.
Fine if you have thousands of followers who come to your site to see you and your latest stuff.
Not so great if you're just starting out and no one knows who you are yet.
If you try to pull off a celebrity site before building a following, your potential peeps are going to come to your site, take one look, and think "who cares" and be off in a flash.
Never to be seen again.
So, the big no no's...
Don't emulate another coach thinking that they know what they're doing. Out of the hundreds of coaching websites I've seen, my estimate is that about 10% are doing it right. Those are not good odds.
Don't emulate someone who is at a different place in his or her business, who has developed a celebrity brand. If you're just getting started, this can backfire.
In next week's blog post, I'll get into more of the specifics on this.
Until then, have a great week!
With love & joy,
P.S. Is there someone in your life who could benefit from reading this post? Why not share this with them?
