How your coaching methodology can grow your business (part 2)

In my last blog post, I shared that I’ll be taking a deep dive into why developing your own coaching methodology is one of the best things you can do for your business because it ensures that you...

  1. 1
    Become a master level coach
  2. 2
Create valuable content so you can attract clients to you
  3. 3
    Never have to sell yourself

In this blog post, we’ll focus on how it can help you become a master level coach.

A rock solid expert in your field.

Imagine you had complete confidence in helping your clients achieve their wildest dreams in your one transformation. You knew that no matter who you were working with, you knew you could help them get those results.

Having your own coaching methodology is how you get there.

When I was a general business coach, I didn’t have my own coaching methodology.

What I had was a head full of scattered ideas and bits of knowledge about how to help my clients.

I felt incompetent most of the time because there was just too much I needed to know.

And remember.

And learn.

And I had no system for organizing any of it.

All that changed when I first created The Coaching Genius System and then took it even further with The Coaches Accelerator.

I went from a bunch of scattered ideas and bits of knowledge, to a well-defined, streamlined system that only includes the best of the best of what my clients need.

To do that, I needed three things...

  • To narrow down my niche to help a very specific group of people with a very specific set of challenges
  • To understand my community intimately
  • To have enough expertise (and confidence) to actually provide my own solution.

Let’s look at the first one...

Step 1: Narrow down your niche

As a general business coach, I was working with coaches, freelancers, speakers, retail shop owners, energy healers, and consultants.

While all of these businesses do share some of the same challenges — attracting clients, selling, creating systems — the solutions are completely different for each group.

For example, while both need to sell their products and services, the selling process for a coach is completely different than selling in a retail store.

Thus, creating a coaching methodology that incorporated all of these different businesses was pretty much impossible. Or at the very least, not ideal.

Takeaway:

Narrowing down your niche is really the first step to developing your coaching methodology. This is the first step to becoming an expert — a master level coach.

Step 2: Understand your community intimately

You can’t solve a problem you don’t understand.

And you can’t provide a solution if you don’t know what your community wants and needs the most.

This also includes knowing what they need that they don’t even know they need.

For example, many of the gals coming into my community don’t know that they need to narrow down their niche.

Many think that all they need to do is call themselves a life coach and put up a website.

What they need is to follow a step-by-step system that teaches them concepts like...

  • the importance of narrowing their niche
  • developing their own coaching methodology so they can become an expert, stand out in their niche, and attract their community members to them
  • why they don’t want to package and price their coaching until they have a solid coaching methodology
  • why marketing their business before they have their niche dialed in is a waste of time
  • and so on...

Takeaway:

Understanding the underlying issues and challenges  of your community is the second step to developing your coaching methodology

Step 3: Have enough expertise (and confidence) to provide a solution

If you understand the underlying issues and challenges your community members face, then you’re ready to create a solution.

And that’s what your coaching methodology is all about. It’s the key pieces that will help your clients get from where they are now to where they want to be.

In some cases, it will be a step-by-step process like The Coaches Accelerator.

In other cases, it may be more categorical (e.g., creating a vision, action plan, developing habits, etc.) where you know you’ll hit the important pieces at some point.

Both are effective. And what you create will depend on your personality and strengths.

Takeaway:

Your coaching methodology IS the solution your potential clients have been looking for.

To sum up, by creating your own coaching methodology, you will become an expert at helping your clients move through the process and get the results they want. Thus, becoming a master level coach in the process. And you do this by…

  • Narrowing down your niche to help a very specific group of people with a very specific set of challenges
  • Understanding your community (and their challenges) intimately
  • Having enough expertise (and confidence) to provide your own solution

In the next blog post, I’ll share how your coaching methodology can make your content marketing so much easier.

Until then…

With love & joy,

Selena
