The first quarter of 2022 is done and dusted. That seemed fast, didn't it?
The end of every quarter always has me thinking about my goals and what I want most out of life.
The end of a quarter is a fantastic time to review the past quarter, rethink your goals, and plan the next quarter.
And a while back, I came across a blog post about defining a chief aim for your life. I think the idea originally came from Think And Grow Rich.
The idea is to define a chief aim that is simple, to the point, but broad enough to leave room for opportunities.
Forest Co's aim was “Help people thrive in the 21st century.”
That felt a little too broad to me.
Mainly because it doesn't focus on the ways you help people.
If you know my work by now, you know that I’m a big believer in uncovering our secret sauce to do the work we do.
So the first chief aim that I wrote down for myself was...
Use my creativity to develop products and services that help people thrive
I borrowed from them the idea of helping people thrive. I think that’s what most of us coaches want.
While this was fine for my business, a chief aim is supposed to encompass your entire life. So this didn't really fit my personal life. I’m not going to develop products and services for my family & friends, right?
So, my next version was...
Use my creativity to help people thrive
Better, but I don’t want to just use my creativity. So I came up with...
Use my wisdom and creativity to help people thrive
Better because putting in the word “wisdom” reminds me that I have a ton of life experience and lessons learned that I can pull from.
But still not quite there because I don’t just pull from my own life experiences. I’m also a spiritual person who believes in co-creating with the universe. So my next and final (at least for now) is:
Use my wisdom, intuition, and creativity to help people thrive
Adding in intuition is my way of saying I will check in with that inner knowing that comes from spirit.
What’s fantastic about having a chief aim is that we can run every decision we make through this filter.
- Is this thing I’m about to say going to help me or someone else thrive?
- Is this thing I’m about to do going to help me or someone else thrive?
(we get to count ourselves in here since we’re people 😉
