Day 30 of writing challenge (lessons learned)
Today is the last day of my 30-Day Writing Challenge. Phew!
And I'd like to share some of the lessons I've learned...
1
Don't hit publish until the coffee has fully kicked in. You may end up sending an email w/ a subject line the same as the day before.2
Shane was right. Giving yourself a time deadline to write and publish each day does make you more relaxed about the content.3
By day 30, you may even be relaxed about spam complaints.4
Not only do you feel more relaxed about what gets published, your writing also gets more relaxed. More conversational because you're not trying to make it perfect. It's more like writing to a friend. Lovely.5
Some people really enjoy getting emails from you every day. Others not so much.6
You end up having some pretty fun email exchanges with people who have enjoyed your content. Which helps you get to know them even more. Also lovely.7
Parkinson's Law is real. It states that work expands to fill the time available for its completion. That people usually take all the time allotted (and frequently more) to accomplish any task.
I used to spend hours on the blog post / email workflow each week and sometimes not even bother with posting to social media because it would "take too long."
I've now got it down to no more than 90 minutes for the whole thing and often I can get it done within an hour.
It's got me thinking about all the other areas of my business and where Parkinson's law has been in effect. Where have I been assuming it will take a huge chunk of time, when in reality it could be much shorter?8
It becomes a lesson in perseverance near the end. You can see the end in sight, but you still know you have a few days left. You start day dreaming about all the things you'll do with that extra 90 minutes in the morning...9
It was totally worth it. And I would do it again. Maybe just not any time soon. 😉
P.S. Is there someone in your life who could benefit from reading this post? Why not share this with them?

I have a six-figure business now because I dialed in my niche. Honestly, I would not be here writing to you if I had not narrowed it down to coaches. I’d still be floundering, trying to do ALL. THE. THINGS — being a jack-of-all-trades business coach. Never feeling truly confident in what I had to offer. If
Are you worried your niche is too saturated? That you won’t be able to find enough clients if you narrow it down? I’ve had many conversations with coaches who have felt the same way. And I get it. I had the same worry when I decided to move from being a general business coach to working with just coaches. And
This morning, I checked to see how many Coach Action Plans I’ve done since starting them back in 2019. The Coach Action Plan is a 90-minute call I offer coaches to help them move past places in their business where they’re getting stuck. As of this morning, I’ve conducted 258 Coach Action Plans. While it’s been amazing to
I see a lot of coaches struggle with the idea of choosing a niche and narrowing it down. And I get it. It feels counterintuitive to focus on fewer community members. That’s why I want to re-share a short article by author Seth Godin. He’s written several books on effective marketing, including the importance of narrowing your

Do you feel the pressure to do ‘all the things’ when it comes to marketing your business? I’ll admit, I feel it too. It seems like you should be everywhere online, on all the platforms, all the time. But like I mentioned in my last post, that’s just not realistic. I’m a big believer in finding a marketing approach
