Day 30 of writing challenge (lessons learned)

Today is the last day of my 30-Day Writing Challenge. Phew!

And I'd like to share some of the lessons I've learned...

  1. 1
Don't hit publish until the coffee has fully kicked in. You may end up sending an email w/ a subject line the same as the day before.
  2. 2
Shane was right. Giving yourself a time deadline to write and publish each day does make you more relaxed about the content.
  3. 3
By day 30, you may even be relaxed about spam complaints.
  4. 4
Not only do you feel more relaxed about what gets published, your writing also gets more relaxed. More conversational because you're not trying to make it perfect. It's more like writing to a friend. Lovely.
  5. 5
Some people really enjoy getting emails from you every day. Others not so much.
  6. 6
You end up having some pretty fun email exchanges with people who have enjoyed your content. Which helps you get to know them even more. Also lovely.
  7. 7
Parkinson's Law is real. It states that work expands to fill the time available for its completion. That people usually take all the time allotted (and frequently more) to accomplish any task.

I used to spend hours on the blog post / email workflow each week and sometimes not even bother with posting to social media because it would "take too long."

I've now got it down to no more than 90 minutes for the whole thing and often I can get it done within an hour.

It's got me thinking about all the other areas of my business and where Parkinson's law has been in effect. Where have I been assuming it will take a huge chunk of time, when in reality it could be much shorter?
  8. 8
It becomes a lesson in perseverance near the end. You can see the end in sight, but you still know you have a few days left. You start day dreaming about all the things you'll do with that extra 90 minutes in the morning...
  9. 9
It was totally worth it. And I would do it again. Maybe just not any time soon.   😉

Talk to you on Sunday!

With love & joy,

Selena

Tired of selling yourself as a coach?

A few days ago, I was talking with a friend who’s been struggling to find new clients. She’s a very smart and accomplished woman. She’d led a very successful career working her way up the ladder in a well-known Fortune 500 company. And then she left her corporate career to go off on her own and start
