Crossing the Bridge, Part I

Today’s email is the first in a multi-part series exploring a topic I’m asked about a lot:

What really matters for growing a successful coaching business?

As I’m sure you’re well aware, there is an abundance of business advice out there.

A Google search for “How to grow my coaching business” produces 67,600,000 results. 

It’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Sifting through all the advice to find the true gems is a full-time job in itself.

Many coaches have a backlog of resources. Unfinished courses. An Evernote crammed with unread articles. Educational emails stuffed into a “later” folder.

All this information has led to a deficit in insight. 

Insight is knowing how to take the right information and apply it towards your specific situation.

And if you want to reach your goals, it’s what really matters.

Which is why in this series I’m going beyond information to give you real insight into what to focus on (and more importantly, what NOT to focus on) as you grow your coaching business. 

If there’s only one lesson you take away from this series, I hope it’s this:

Less, but better.

Because that will make all the difference on your journey towards becoming a successful coaching business owner.

Now to frame our discussion over this email series, it’s time to introduce an important concept: 

Crossing the bridge. 

The Coaching Bridge is how you cross from where you are, to actually getting to enjoy a profitable and freedom-filled business. One that gives you the time and financial freedom to do whatever you want. 

The bridge is composed of 5 ‘building blocks’. Each block is essential if you want to cross from here to the other side. Miss one and you won’t make it across.

But beware.

Your natural inclination might be more. 

Don’t give in to that instinct. Contrary to popular belief, more is not better.

More overloads your bridge. It creates a weak and unsustainable business. It collapses under its own weight.

Instead, focus on the essential.

Which is exactly what we’re going to do together in this series. Over the next five emails we’re going to fill out the Coaching Bridge. I’m going to reveal each of the 5 key building blocks in turn and show you how they work.

Most importantly, I’m going to show you why building a coaching business is much simpler than you might think.

Notice I didn’t say easy. 

Easy is a myth invented by shady marketers to peddle get rich quick schemes.

In my experience, growing a business has been one of the most powerful personal development experiences of my life (second only to raising my kid). 

The fact that this work challenges us is a good thing. It’s a feature, not a bug. 

I’m a stronger, more resilient person because I’ve gone through the journey of building my business.

But just because it isn’t easy doesn’t mean it can’t be simple. 

I promise you it’s possible to grow your business with a whole lot less overwhelm. Much less stress. And without so much frustration. 

You don’t have to feel like you’re throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks.

Through these blog posts I’m giving you the antidote to wasted time and energy.
