Today's blog post is a bit of a rant.
During this writing challenge, I've also challenged myself to post on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
Historically, it's not something I've added to my blog posting workflow because I didn't feel I had the time. But I thought I'd see if I could get it down to a quick 5-minutes.
Last week, on day 1 of the challenge, I posted my first Instagram post since January.
That was post #16 on Instagram.
On that post, I got this comment:
"YASSS👏🏻👏🏻 we love your feed it seems to get better with every post! You have serious business potential 😍🔥 you would be perfect for our One million in 12 months course! I'm not sure you if you are ready for next level but the link is in our bio! 🙊🔥"
Then on day 2, they left the same exact comment.
Then, yesterday, they left this comment. Only it was from a different account, but with the same branding colors, and same exact Instagram posts on the account. The same offer, etc. Weird.
"OMG! YES YES YES YES YES we absolutely love your feed your business and everything about it! You would be perfect for our one million in 12 months course I'm not sure if you are ready for that kind of growth but your business definitely could do it! Click the link in our bio If you are up for a crazy 12 months of intense business growth."
Oh lord.
They know I have serious business potential from less than 20 Instagram posts?
So much so that I can make a million in 12 months?
So I go check it out because I'm curious.
And to be fair, the colors are nice and they are masters at marketing.
They're using ALL the tricks.
As I'm skimming the sales page, I start getting seriously irritated.
Ignoring the fact that the sales page reminds me a little bit of the Billie Eilish song, "Bad Guy."
(Catchy and creepy at the same time)
From what I can gather, the course teaches people how to build their business through Instagram followers using their methods and techniques.
And from what I can gather, their methods and techniques are to spam what they consider to be new business owners.
Ugh.
So here are my issues with what they're doing...
First, the promise is ridiculous, especially for new business owners. But it hits a lot of psychological buttons for people. Especially during these times when people are struggling. So people will buy.
Second, it puts more spam out on the internet. Everyone who follows their methods will start spamming other Instagram accounts. This kind of stuff is the reason people hate marketing and marketers. There are legitimate ways to market your business that feel good and in alignment with who you are and how you want to run your business. There's no need for this goofiness.
Finally, it hurts people like us who want to grow legitimate businesses through providing value and service because it adds to the noise and makes it harder for us to be heard.
End of rant.
Thanks for reading.
Have a great day!
With love & joy,
P.S. Is there someone in your life who could benefit from reading this post? Why not share this with them?
